Constitution of Bampton Weightlifting Club
Article I: Name and Purpose
Section 1: Name
The name of this organization shall be Bampton Weightlifting Club (hereafter referred to as "the Club").
Section 2: Purpose
The purpose of the Bampton Weightlifting Club is to:
- Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals interested in weightlifting and strength training.
- Promote the development of weightlifting skills, knowledge, and techniques among its members.
- Encourage participation in weightlifting events, competitions, and educational activities.
- Foster a sense of community, teamwork, and mutual respect among members of all skill levels.
Article II: Membership
Section 1: Eligibility
Membership is open to all individuals who:
- Are at least 18 years of age.
- Agree to abide by the constitution, rules, and regulations of the Club.
- Pay the membership fees as stipulated by the Club.
Section 2: Categories of Membership
The Club shall have the following categories of membership:
- Active Members: Individuals who regularly participate in Club activities and training sessions.
- Honorary Members: Individuals who have contributed significantly to the Club or the sport of weightlifting, as determined by the Executive Committee, but may not actively participate in regular training.
Section 3: Membership Rights and Responsibilities
- All members shall have the right to attend and participate in Club meetings, activities, and events.
- Active members are eligible to vote on Club matters and hold office.
- All members are expected to promote the objectives of the Club, demonstrate sportsmanship, and uphold the Club’s code of conduct.
Section 4: Termination of Membership
Membership may be terminated if a member:
- Fails to adhere to the Club's rules and regulations.
- Displays behaviour that is harmful to the Club or its members.
- Voluntarily resigns from the Club.
Article III: Executive Committee
Section 1: Composition
The Club shall be governed by an Executive Committee consisting of the following elected officers:
- President
- Chairman
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Competition Secretary
Section 2: Duties of Officers
- President: Represents the Club in official matters
- Chairman: Oversees all Club activities, chairs meetings, and ensures the objectives of the Club are met.
- Secretary: Maintains records of meetings, manages Club correspondence, and handles member communications.
- Treasurer: Manages the Club’s finances, including the collection of membership fees and payment of expenses, and provides financial reports at Club meetings.
- Competition Secretary: Leads training sessions, coordinates events and competitions, and ensures the well-being and safety of all members during activities.
Section 3: Election of Officers
- Officers shall be elected annually at the Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Nominations for office must be submitted at least one week prior to the AGM.
- Elections shall be conducted by a majority vote of the members present.
Section 4: Term of Office
- The term of office for all Executive Committee members shall be one year.
- Officers may be re-elected to serve consecutive terms.
Section 5: Vacancies
In the event of a vacancy, the Executive Committee shall appoint an interim officer to serve until the next AGM.
Article IV: Meetings
Section 1: General Meetings
- The Club shall hold general meetings when deemed necessary by the executive committee.
- All members shall be notified and minutes made available upon request.
Section 2: Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- The AGM shall be held annually.
- The purpose of the AGM is to review the Club’s activities, elect officers, and discuss plans for the upcoming year.
Section 3: Executive Committee Meetings
- The Executive Committee shall meet monthly or as deemed necessary by the chairman, minutes will be made
available upon request.
- A quorum for Executive Committee meetings shall consist of a majority of its members.
Section 4: Decision-Making and Voting
- Decisions at all meetings shall be made by a simple majority vote.
- The committee will make all decisions regarding day to day running of the club, including any purchases for that
purpose.
- Any decisions requiring immediate attention e.g. health and safety, safeguarding will be made by the executive
committee.
- Each active member, including officers, is entitled to one vote. The President has the casting vote in the event of a
tie.
- Any high-cost equipment purchases will be voted on by the members.
Article V: Finances
Section 1: Club Funds
- The Club’s finances shall be managed by the Treasurer under the supervision of the Executive Committee.
- All funds raised through membership fees, fundraising activities, or donations shall be used solely for the benefit of the Club and its members.
Section 2: Membership Fees
- The Executive Committee shall determine the membership fees annually.
- Membership fees are payable within the first month of the membership year.
Section 3: Expenditure and Financial Accountability
- All expenditures above an amount set by the Executive Committee must be approved by the Committee.
- The Treasurer shall present an annual financial report at the AGM.
Article VI: Code of Conduct
Section 1: Respect and Sportsmanship
All members are expected to:
- Treat fellow members, coaches, and officials with respect.
- Refrain from any behaviour that may harm the reputation of the Club.
- Support a safe and positive environment for training and competition.
Section 2: Safety
Members must:
- Follow proper weightlifting techniques and guidelines to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
- Report any hazards or unsafe practices to the Executive Committee.
Article VII: Amendments to the Constitution
Section 1: Proposal of Amendments
Any active member may propose an amendment to the Constitution by submitting it in writing to the Secretary.
Section 2: Voting on Amendments
- Proposed amendments shall be discussed and voted on at the AGM or a specially called meeting.
- Amendments require a two-thirds majority vote of the members present to pass.
Article VIII: Dissolution
Section 1: Dissolution Process
- The Club may be dissolved by a two-thirds majority vote of active members at a specially called meeting.
- In the event of dissolution, all remaining Club funds and assets, after the settlement of debts, shall be donated to a charitable organization or local sports initiative agreed upon by the members.
